One of the reasons for the recent lack of posting is that I was in Finland for most of July, thanks to an extravagant Christmas present from Chandra. I've been there a few times before, but this was Chandra's first trip overseas. We hit Helsinki, Joensuu, Rääkkylä, Tampere, Hämeenlinna, Pori, and Yyteri. The original plan was to go to Turku for a rock festival, but we decided instead to do a folk festival in Rääkkylä. At least we thought it was a folk festival until the heavy metal band showed up (wtf?). Anyway, I got to see Värttinä again, and a newer band called Lot Lorien out of Bulgaria.
This picture was taken in the Pori Theatre during a concert we attended of a couple women's groups. The first was an all-women big band (except for the percussion section) which mostly played old disco tunes, and the second was a group of students who had won some competition. Lots of solos over some not-so-interesting themes. Still, the drummer in the second group was a riot to watch. She started out as a tiny blonde wisp of a girl, who then turned into a scowling beast as she attacked the skins.
Anyway, that's why the page went blank. Maybe when I get the pictures developed from the 35mm camera I'll post some more...
