Save the Internet

I'll have to admit that I don't fully understand what's going on here, but I'm operating under two assumptions:

1. Telephone and cable companies are both shortsighted and care more about their own short-term profits than anything else. Given half a chance, they would grease the wheels for those with deep pockets, and leave people like me (as a devourer and sometime provider of internet content) to simply Bend Over and Grease Up.
2. Congress is broken, and so deep in the pockets of said companies that they can no longer see or care about what's good for this country.
