Magic Moving Images

This is really cool-- animation with just a single image and a piece of clear (striped?) plastic.

"Sananda"?

Went to see "Knocked Up" tonight, and Chandra pointed out that Terence Trent D'arby was mentioned in the music credits...except that he apparently changed his name. He's also releasing stuff on his website, and has some free samples. Hm.

Frank statements

I'll forgive the authorship goof in the intro (Frank Herbert, not Paul...) for highlighting the short Kos piece.

Stuff that's cool, stuff that's not

One of the cats has been peeing on the carpet, and it's finally gotten to the point where we can't stand it any longer. So if we don't invite you over for dinner, don't be hurt. It smells like feline urethra in here. The only good news is that the odor seems to be largely limited to one floor, so it is possible to escape it. The other good news (for me, anyway) is that Chandra's olfactory senses are so impaired that she doesn't get hit with the full brunt of the offensiveness and can therefore do something about it.

My contribution to dealing with this is to try and figure out (or confirm, since we have our suspicions) who the culprit is among the four freeloaders. So, I've been running a copy of iStopMotion for the last few days in an attempt to catch someone in the act. It's not the best surveillance software, but it does capture activity in a reasonable way (I may try SecuritySpy next). My old Pismo Powerbook isn't really up to the task of encoding or playing back the time lapse videos, but for now it's holding up pretty well. If I want faster encoding I just hook up the portable firewire drive and move the files around. With the camera set up and remote desktop into the laptop, I can even check on the scene of the crime without having to suffer.

And the best part? Apparently we'll be putting one of the little furry buggers on some sort of mind-altering medication. Won't that be fun.
