You know it's gonna be a bad day when....
Truck carrying 9 million angry bees spills in Montana
So, really, I don't get the whole 24-hour Reagan coverage thing (yep - still dead......uh huh - still dead.....) Yeah, he was president. Yeah it's sad he died - he was 93, though - and hasn't been fully with the world for several years thanks to Alzheimers. I don't remember having all-Nixon-all-the-time tv when Nixon died. Yes - I do understand 'that was different' - Nixon resigned, blah blah.
While I doubt that Reagan will make it into history as one of the best Presidents ever - and I hope that we don't have the Reagan dime, dollar, 20 dollar bill, etc. I do acknowledge that he was well-loved.
BUT, the hysteria over his death is just weird. I mean, Jason pointed to one instance of the Reagn-happy hysteria yesterday. Not only did Reagan NOT create the Department of Education (it was formed as a free entity under Carter - existed before him as part of a larger department), but also he appointed a head to that department (William Bennett) who thinks that "learning" is a checklist activity. Once you have mastered his list of important stuff, presumably you are educated. This is tightly tied to the whole E. D. Hirsch thing. Without getting on my soapbox, I will just say that this is a BAD thing and leave it at that.
So, my big "whatever" alarm goes off and I quietly wait for the Reagasm to end.....
Okay, so i logged in to update my (very few) readers that I did, indeed, survive the trip to VA. I just forgot to update this blog (I have another one - making keeping up interesting). The short version is, we skipped out a day early to return to civilization which was defined by my friend and I as a Gold's gym, Starbucks and any restaurant that sold salads that couldn't include "Mc" in their name. We were successful - having only to drive a couple hours to address all three of these criteria and to visit one of each of the places. (Nope - never stopped at a gym ont eh road before - you just can't imagine how bad the food we were eating was that it drove us to CRAVE working out.)
Upon logging into my blog, I found out that the SPAMMERS have attacked me - or rather my comments section. I dunno - somehow "Buy this system, it's a great addition to any home entertainment system" somehow doesn't strike me as an appropriate or even amusing comment to my entries about 1/4 pound cookies. Well - the comments are all cleaned up now and back to the regularly scheduled guest appearances by friends and my husband masquerading as any one of his many alter egos.
